A direct USB host-to-host connectivity is imposible. USB is an 
intrinsically asymmetric bus.

The USB connection "cables" you have seen references to have a controller 
between the two USB connectors, presenting a USB-to-eth converter to each 
host and thus providing a network connection between the two systems.

Your another option would be to provide each your server with a 
USB-to-serial dongle similar to the one you use with your laptop, and 
specify "console=ttyUSB0,..." on server's kommand line (if you want a 
console on it) and start a getty on it from /etc/inittab just as usual.
