Thank you for your help, Alan. I have already started to run the driver stability test on another host with completely different hardware and even though the test has been running without problems for 2 1/2 days now, I quess I'll have to wait till the end of the week until I'm confident that the problem really was related to the previous machines hardware (Amd Athlon XP/Asus A7V880/VIA KT880-chipset/Nexus 500W power supply). As the Terratec USB-tuner doesn't have its own power cord, its totally dependent on USB-bus supplying the power and thefore your guess about inadequate USB power support might actually explain the unexpected device disconnections.
