Pavel,

Based on feedback from from Alan, Stephen Tweedie,
and Matt, I'm not going to apply this patch.

It's apparently based on emails that Matt and I
wrote last Saturday-Sunday, so I see how you came
up with the patch.  We didn't think it through
completely.  Anyway, they are right, we don't
want to hide problems, we want to solve them.
