Yes.  It works after unplugging/repluging the usb-drive, and after
unloading/reloading usb-uhci.
A little more info I learned:  In the cases where it doesn't work the first
time (~20% of the time with usb-uhci), I can unload/reload usb-storage, and
it will work the 2nd time.  However, if I unload/relaod again, it goes back
to previous behaviour (can't get it to work in any further attempts to
unload/reload, (or until unplug/replug or unload/reload of usb-uhci).
I also found out that doing a suspend (with APM not ASPI) also causes the
load of usb-storage to not work (with the same messages), but I don't know
if this is a related problem or not.
