Odd, it's a flash memory reader - should be ready almost instantly. And

Not a CD - it's a SmartMedia flash card, and I can't wait between
loading the usb-storage and accessing the device, because the system
automatically tries to access the partition table (and fails).

By the way, the first thing that seems to be failing now is the
READ_CAPACITY request - could it be possible that it also needs a
different length?
