Results, agreement and an official patch real soon now (TM).
When the interval is set to 0 in the completion handler, the interrupt-URB
is killed and not longer continued. Thus also one-shot interrupts
survive since it is not much code overhead.
The patch will also fix the spec-violation Tom discovered.
