Simple:

follow the link "Backport of 2.3 USB code to 2.2 kernels" which leads to
http://www.suse.cz/development/usb-backport/, "The v2.2 Linux USB drivers
backport" where one can read "The patches included here make only minimal
changes to the v2.3 USB tree, to make sure no bugs are introduced by the
backport if possible.".
This is as "official" as it can get with regards to the usb project (my personal
opinion).
