Yes that is there story. You should file a complaint with oftel btw. Indeed
everyone who has a non windows box should be filing complaints with Oftel
about this. BT aren't allowed to tie handsets to their own, or an investors
system. And oftel are on the net so you can google for them and post it
without getting out of your chair

Alcatel have posted some news here. Expect an open source driver courtesy
of Alcatel. Until then keep bugging Oftel to make a regulatory decision. The
first time you ask them they will send you all the random pile of pages
about it. Having got this (it doesn answer the question) you bug them a
second time and tell them their blurb so far doesnt help.

While Alcatel are being good guys and helpful, its important that the
'what would happen if they had not been' case is resolved and settled for
the future.
