[linux-usb] Usb modem and Linux 2.2.15 mdk 7.1

Hi I need some help in getting on work a usb modem which led is on after
launching linux 2.2.15 mandrake 7.1. Of course it works fine under win98.
  Almost all manuals I have red refer to a proc/bus/usb directory, but 
there is none in the
root tree.
Any possible help will be appreciated.
