I saw from the list archive that there have been either some issues with the pl2303 driver or just with buggy hardware in the past, and so I'm wondering, should I roll the dice with another pl2303 based product or try to find something else?
I thought everyone might get a kick out of this. I was doing some more fooling around with this bad pl2303 based USB serial cable, and I think I've nailed down its issue. There must be a broken wire or other loose contact in it. I can literally make it appear/disappear on demand just by changing the orientation of the db9 end of the cable. It's my magic cable :)
It's hardly worth the return shipping, but I guess I am going to have to lean on Newegg to replace it as clearly defective. Perhaps I can get a good one.
