According to your log, the device is accepting a command, failing to
transfer any data, and then reporting a severe error which requires a
reset.
My best guess is that it needs to be initialized somehow. You say the
device runs under windows (without extra drivers, I presume)? Perhaps a
usb snoopy trace of htat would shed some light on this....
