Hi, This is my first post to this list, so I hope this is an apropriate place to ask my questions. As stated in the subject, I am looking for advice regarding USB to serial (RS-232) adapters on linux. We, at the robotics institute where I work, have a couple of new laptops lacking serial interfaces and have a few devices that we must control this way. One person in the group already had problems trying to use one usb-serial adapter in the past, and recall other people calling these types of devices unreliable. My question, or request for advice, is what chipsets/brands/etc. I should avoid, which ones have better linux support, more mature drivers, etc. Moreover, I would like to know if I can expect to control all the devices without problems (they are all controllable today w/ standard serial inerfaces), or if there are limitations in these usb-serial adapters taht I might encounter. Last, I want to mention that each laptop will have to control between 2 and 4 serial devices, so devices with multiple outputs are preferred. Thanks in advance for your time,
