Hi Nick
yes - there just possibly might be an issue with the via chipsets and running a 2.4.x
kernel.

this is *not* a widespread problem, i doubt that it's even that well known (?).
it's just that some people have had a bugger of a time running some of the 2.4 series
kernels on some mobo's with some via chips when they do some things.
a lot of drilling down there, eh?

also this has ONLY happened when they've used these kernels compiled with the k7
optimisations. compiling with k6 things is fine.

HOWEVER alan cox seems to be fairly sure that this has been licked in recent kernels.
i haven't seen any of these bug reports since 2.4.9 (i think) may even be earlier.
anyway 2.4.10 is out now and should be ok.

of course for mission critical stuff 2.2.19 is still regarded as the stable kernel.
odd really given how long 2.4 series has been out now.

so.
after all that:
i'd say go ahead and buy it. but you did ask if there were any issues.

sorry
peter
PS: nice setup by the way. drooool droool. what kind of monitor will you be using?
and (dare i be cheeky enough) i doubt that you'll be discarding any old bits and
pieces but if you are ____?
