John,
At the last meeting of the CLUG there were about 30 present of the 180 odd
that belong this CLUG email list. The same question you ask was asked at the
time by way of a showing of hands to see what ratio there were toward the
various distro's. I could be corrected here but my memory tells me the ratio
was something like 45% Mandrake, 30% Redhat, 25% Debian. And another 5%
approximately were experimenting with other lesser known distributions as
well as a mainstream distro.
Mandrake I think takes a lot of beating. But other distros are good to!
Just something I might mention if you should be installing Mandrake is that I
have noticed (with Mandrake 8.0) anyway that during the install there is a
couple of long periods of apparent inactivity. I thought I had an install
failure the first couple of times I encounted this. So just wait it out
before doing anything rash like a reboot and trying the install all over
again! The inactivity was like a couple of minutes on a pentium III 767meg!
