With VA now no longer a Linux company and having already dropped ties to
Kiro5hin, is there anything being done by the Linux community as a
backup position in case Slashdot ceases to function?

Even something as simple as a Slashdot newsgroup? At least that would
form a rallying point for a reconstruction effort in the event of an
almighty shutdown.
