Firstly thanks for all the responses, to many to thank all individuals. A little resarch and lots of input from people here and at http://www.unixathome.org/adsl/ has led me to choose the Alcatel Speedtouch Pro. I will not be using the NAT features of this unit (I already have a 100Mbits/s switch) however the are there if I ever need them. I will get this unit over the Home version as it will allow me in the future to run a server using the pinholing features of this modem. A positive for this modem is it has not been discontinued.
Thanks Volker for the input on Telstra/Saturn, I am not getting the DSL for here in Christchurch but when I go home over summer (Taupo), however the cable television provider in Taupo is currently looking at providing cable internet services, so I will check them out when I get home. Does any one want config etc posted when all up and running? Thanks again, Mark Carey
