Hear-ye, Hear-ye.. etc.

Thursday 6th December at 7:30 pm
The Sydenham Community Association Hall
25 Hutcheson Street, Sydenham.

There's a map on the CLUG site at:
http://christchurch.lug.net.nz/

The loose agenda, at this stage, looks like:

Nick Rout and Myself will be talking/presenting information on SMTP and Mail
servers.

Nick is kicking off with a ditty on the nitty gritty bits. Those being the
smtp & mail formats (rfc's 821/822) - envelope vs message headers, mx
records etc.

I'll then swing into full motion (a scary concept) and starting with a
virgin (ooer) Distro installed on a machine will endeavour to do the
following, with associated descriptions discussions and cussing where
appropriate:

- Build a postfix mail server from source tarball.
- Test email send/receive functionality from command prompt
- Configure client access from Kmail or similar
- Receive email smtp'd from outside world (via dialup, smoke and mirrors)
- Install, configure, run a webmail client (squirrel 1.2 rc2)
- Describe and demonstrate working virtual hosting config (on a running mail
server)
- Discuss blackholing, anti-spam procedures, and why some ISP's don't
bother.

Somewhere in there we'll break for the mandatory bikkies and coffee, and so
people can hassle Nick and me about our errors and omissions. :-).

Cheers, Chris Hellyar.
