that would end up in a rewrite of X. but please consider, X is not that bloated as you think. really i have been running X on a 386 without much trouble. most wysiwyg wordprocessors will draw many more resources from your machine than X. if your machine does not have enough resources then you need to give up on graphial apps in the first place, svgalib won't help you that much...
