I have a Soundblaster PCI 64 with ensoniq EN1370 chipset. No synth(?), I
don't need it. It was the cheapest I could find, and it works. Mono input
(microphone), stereo output. Supported by kernel drivers and alsa, sans
/dev/sndstat and /dev/audio.
/dev/dsp is ok, that's enough. Full oss drivers suppport all but are very
expensive (US$40 i think), free trial.

The sb live is ok too, but 3 times the price. For very high-qual low-noise
input neither is likely to be good.

The linux audio users list should have better answers in the archive.
