The last time I checked, Word could happily open RTF documents... ;-)  And before you ask, yes I've done it and at the end, after my name, I put something to this effect:

P.S. The attached document is in RTF and PDF format for you.  RTF format can be viewed in any wordprocessor, i.e. Microsoft Word while the PDF version may be viewed with a PDF reader such as Acrobat Reader.

You'll notice I didn't go into any more explanation than necessary but it makes the point, if nothing else, that there are other formats other than .doc

Unless we all take small steps to end the Microshaft stranglehold, the path to computing freedom will be lengthened.

No, not of the internet, but of BUSINESS. Try sending a client a draft
document in anything else and they can't do it. .pdf is a good
alternative for this, but the client cannot alter it or put inline
comments.
