Because it is almost as old as Linux!!! No, seriously, the reason I like it is the same as the reason most people like the dist. they use... it was the first one I was exposed to. But it has been around a long time, is the first dist. to be widely adopted. Some say it is the dist. for the server boys. More for the boiler room than the parlour, early versions throw you in the deep end, latest versions are getting to be more 'RH' like. I think most Slackware user even with X will prefer working from the command line. But the biggie is that it is stable, runs on a mix of machines here 386's up to P200's with v7.x and 8.0, business depends on it and as a small ISP, over the last eight years the only problem I have had was the loss of a SCSI drive and that was on a Sun Sparc...
