Ok lpr is dumped cups is in, nice web interface. Incidentially the printer I am trying to print to is managed by lprng on another linux machine (printserver.....). On my previous machine I used to type in acrobats print dialog, <snip> /usr/bin/lpr [EMAIL PROTECTED] </snip> And nice pages would appear out of the printer.
Now I have cups running, I have added a printer, given it a name description, location. The cups web interface tells me that the printer is idle, accepting jobs. So I thought I would try print a test page, curiously nothing comes out of the printer. /etc/cups/printers.conf has an entry corresponding to the data that I fed the web interface. /var/log/messages informs me and ps -aux confirms that cupsd is running, with no other glaring errors. /etc/hosts now has an entry for the local machine name returning the loopback ip addy. Help. For the information of the printing gurus the device URI which I assume is right is below. <snip> Device URI: lpd://printserver.canterbury.ac.nz/printer </snip> Thanks, Mark Carey
