On the same negotiated connection, transmitting & receiving 21 packets, 368.372msec went up to 1043.469 average! However, the minimum ping times were 279 & 269 respectively - just an unrelated aberration in the statistics I think. So I guess the problem's not with IPChains. Is there a useful place on the net for looking up modem commands? Perhaps it's something to do with my initialisation strings, which are few and more than likely suspect.
