Hi
everyone,
This is a message of appreciation to all the kind folk involved with Installfest 2002. You've done a great job. Here is my 1st send from Kmail off my XP1800 desktop, running Mandrake 8.2 successfully. Especial mention goes to Nick Rout for the install, 'the travelling Irishman' at Installfest for some tricky PCTel modem modules, Mahesh & Nick for CD supply etc., Zane for his sheer hard work, & the knowledgeable Keith McGavin for a day's setup tuning last week. Most of my available time since platform gain has been spent keeping up with the CLUG post reading & RUTE online. It looks all good to me! A brand-newbie's $0.02 worth? (finding it hard to refer to cents when five are the least I can find ; ) - Win2K was looking good, but now I've seen *real* computing. That is, the idea that programming access and learning is important, and a stable desktop is not too much to ask (e.g. a common old Genius.Netscroll+ mouse can crash Win2K, while Mandrake didn't even need an extra driver source and hums along without a glitch). Full migration to the new system depends upon my Ethernet card coming back to life (we set it for the LAN @Installfest, and I think a now incorrect proxy setting lurks somewhere). Will persevere & ask for help if no luck in finding it. Kia ora, kia kaha - be well, keep up the fight Rik Tindall |
