Not a very well organised site. I selected 'Getting Started, How the File System Works' and went to a page listing Newsletters, none of was referring to file systems. I was none the wiser and needed that information before being able to progress any further. A viewing of this would probably put your average newbie off for life! (Most CLUG members, self excepted, are of course above average.) I remembered it as 'look see', which is probably as good a way as any of remembering it. Not that you need to with a graphic interface (GUI) as a file manager there will show the contents of DIRs with a click or two. The computer users equivalent to dark sun glasses, whatever the conditions, to show that you're 'cool, man'. I've just discovered that Mandrake's file system is very different to that of Debian's, for example, so I think in many instances my queries on where things should go have possibly been responded to with reference to different distros. (For example, the 'root' DIR and the 'root' DIR. Confusions in terminology and actual DIRs.) Peter.
