I don't know if anyone has said this, and I can't check the archives at
the moment, but why don't you bring the computer along on Thursday?
There'll be lots of people keen to help install Linux (which means that if
there aren't, I just volunteered), and just talk about your options. Also,
Carl's talk will tell you a lot about the Unix way of doing things (Linux
is a variant of Unix*)...which will help a lot when you go to use linux.
Even though everything can be done with a GUI, sometimes it's useful to
know what's heppennign underneath.

* : Some say that Linux stands for Linux Is Not UNix, and to many extents,
this is true. However, Linux does things in the same ways as traditional
UNIX operating systems, so I think/hope/believe we can say that Linux is a
varient of Unix. Anyway, lets talk about this on Thursday rather than
filling everyone's mailboxes :)
