Hello CLUG members,

One more new list member, my name is Helmut Walle. I recently shifted
to Christchurch from Hamburg, Germany.

I have been using Linux at work and privately for I don't remember how
long, but the first system I installed was a Slackware (yes, floppies)
that I put on a 386 with 12 MB RAM, which was quite a lot at that time
- must have been early nineties. Since then, the whole group I worked
in has step by step turned away from HP-UX and used Linux more and
more. The main content of their work is communication networks (i.e.
mainly the Internet) research, tons of simulations using Ptolemy and
ns.

Privately I am running a Suse 7.3 with a 2.2.19 kernel on a 486DX2-66
with 96 MB RAM which is ok for many applications (no KDE or Gnome,
only fvwm2). However, fancy things like Blender are not really fun.

Hope to see you at the October meeting, regards,

Helmut.
