Found the cause of the problem.

Today I bought a new Ram module to upgrade from 64 to 320Mb but it seems that it is
not compatable.

Compaq Bios recognises it OK but the RedHat install does not like it.
Tried with just the 256 module but the PC does not like that.
At the moment RH8 is loading with just 64Mb Ram which I think might be asking too much.
I will keep you posted.

Let me know if you have any advice.

Can anyone help me?

I am trying to load RedHat 8 onto a Compaq Deskpro PIII-400 with 320Mb Ram

Whether I select text or graphical mode installation I get the following message:-

Code: 39 6b 28 89 de 75 f1 8b 44 24 14 39 83 94 00 00 00 75 e5 8b
<0> Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task!
In Idle Task - not syncing

I have tried a different hard drive and CD-Rom drive to no avail.

Please help I have pieces everywhere at the moment.

Robert
