Have an xterm open which is su'd to root, then work in there for whatever needs root access. Any X applications started from a root shell will be running as root. You can run most X apps as root (but netscape refuses to run) Another option is to log in as root (bad idea but its how windows works all the time) > Also, has anyone been able to get an exisiting RAID setup recognized? > (ASUS board with Promise controller, two drives in striped array, > formatted FAT32). Do you have a pair of drives that were in a RAID before, and have now moved to a new controller? or what? > Further, what's the difference between the disk icon on the desktop in > KDE and accessing the drives through, say, Konqueror? Dunno there - I only started using X about a year back.... and only so I could tile 9 shells on screen at once :)
