Nick Rout is on permanent record as saying: :I am having problems ssh'ing into my gentoo box. I can log in as root, :but not as joe_user. I have looked hard in the config files and found :nothing relevant. : :When I connect from another unix box I simply get "Permission denied, please try :again." :twice then: "permission denied (publickey,password,keyboard-interactive)." : :Using putty from windows I get the following after putting in the :usernema and password: : :"Server sent disconnect message type 2 "(SSH_DISCONNECT_PROTOCOL_ERROR): :"Too many authentication errors for nick"" : :Anyone got any hints?
This sounds similar to the problem I had back when I was running slackware. The problem was the crypt library compiled in. If you search through the ssh faq, there should be an entry for Slack 7. I do think this would be an odd problem for gentoo to have, so I have a feeling that I could be wrong, but it does sound familiar. Greg --- -
