Hi,

I too have just moved here from UK. I do have a job, but it took about
3 months to get one. CHCH is the place to be (apparently, and I concur)
for IT in NZ. The main names that come to mind are Tait and Invensys, but
I did send my CV to a bunch of others that I wrote down and cannot recall
(well it was 3 months ago...).

There are two pieces of advice I can give in an open forum:

1) Make sure your CV is written in the New Zealand style. UK CV's tend to
be too brief, which is the right thing to do in UK, but NZ companies want
to know a lot about you from your CV first.
2) Keep a note of where your CV has been submitted. Note the company name,
the contact at the company, the recruiter name (if you didn't submit
directly), the dates of any other follow ups and some decent comments of your
own, and be prepared for the recruitment process to take some time (even after
you've had an interview). You really should only send your CV to any
company once, so if you sign up with multiple recruiters you need to be able
to tell them who you've already submitted your CV to.

If you want to email me off list I can tell you more about my trials and
tribulations. I won't spend too long bemoaning the two months I spent in
Auckland looking for work before getting down here...

Good luck,

Andy
