Nick has a Linux Jornal which has a multimedia special festure , (you will be able find it through the LJ web site) it mentions "Broadcast2000" which has become unavailable from it's home but is easy to find elsewhere (I have rpms if you get stuck), It apeared to be pick of the crop video editor at one point in time.

gimp is an excellent image editing program, its in most (all) desktop distros
