A lot of the cheap cd-r are just rubbish. DSE tell you to get lost if the failure rate is less than 1/7 on any of their ones. If you look through a pack of CDs sideways the clarity of the plastic of the rubbish is often noticably lower. As goods sold in this country have to be of merchantable quality, I'd return them to the store if they don't work in your new writer. I had a pack of Princo from Tastech which was like that. You'll only be able to return those which you didn't try to write.
