I used to think Perl was evil, then I learnt it. Then I learnt Perl Oops, and became sure that Perl _is_ Evil. I took a long look at Python but concluded that its was neat, cute, but less expressive than Perl. ie. Not worth the effort of moving from Perl. I grokked Perl and python was a bit of a let down thereafter. After hacking at Perl Oops for a year or three, I learnt Ruby. Since then I only use Perl for truly evil one liners. ie. I have downgraded Perl to a sort of sed on steroids. For any scripting more that one line I use Ruby.
