There is actually a port of linux that *may* run on them. It's called uCLinux. It is basically a port of linux to machines that don't have paged MMU units (or MMU units at all). The port was done at the University of Califonia (iirc). I found out about it while working on the OpenRISC. www.opencores.org/projects/or1k/ I'm thinking about doing the full Linux port.
