Hi Nick, I remember that I have once done this, but I cannot get myself to remember how it worked. And it was not even a recent kernel. But maybe there was another way, but it achieved exactly what you want. Ah, I found the .config - it was a 2.4.0 kernel ... So the possibility to clone the config of an existing kernel has been there at least since 2.4.0 ... I would suggest that you grep the kernel docs for the word "clone".
