Hi all,

I am just about ready to open the Open Source Technology Centre. There are
still a few things to do, but I have decided to open and do the rest of the
setup as training courses for those who are interested.

I know it is short notice if you are interested, but this is what I will be
doing tomorrow. If you have the time, come along.

Open at 9:00am. The first course will start at 9:30am.

The first course is How to install and configure LTSP.

The LTSP provides a simple way to utilize low cost workstations as either
graphical or character based terminals on a GNU/Linux server.

Topics to be covered are, TFTP, NFS, DHCP and whatever else is required to
get it to work.

I have installed LTSP a couple of times before, but never on a Debian
server. If you have ever thought of setting LTSP up at home or work, then
come in and see how it is done.

It will be very informal. We will go through the steps of setting up each
component and I will explain what each bit does as we go.

I would expect the whole process to take no longer that a couple of hours
(probably less).

Once that is done, I will be installing phpbb on the web server. This will
be the online forum that you can use to request a training course of your
choosing.

This course will start at 11:30 and will cover installing apache, php4,
mysql and phpbb on a Debian server. The format will be the same as the LTSP
course.

We will close at 1:00pm (I have other commitments for the rest of the
weekend).

Drop me an e-mail if you are planning to come. I would like an idea of how
many people will be attending if possible. I have updated the website
http://ostc.dyndns.org. It has a map link off the 'join' page Thanks
Craig).

Later

David Kirk
