Sorry to be pedantic, but that's not entirely true. It is for the later
Macs, yes. The earlier, pre "PowerMac" era was driven by a Motorola chip.
(which, btw, linux has been ported to - the arch string is "m68k")

These chips are not exclusive to Macs. The Amiga uses m68k chips. The
PowerPC is also used by some later Amigas (APUS), and some Mac clones (Umax,
PowerTower, etc)

In fact, interestingly, the PowerPC chip was developed in partnership by
Motorola and IBM. Big Blue has its fingers in a lot of pies.

Either way, a bit of googling will tell you what Macs are m68k, and which
are PowerPCs.
