Chris, I beg to differ, have you read the install instructions lately?
The iso's are now in the order of 540 MB and include binary packages
(called GRP - gentoo refernce package) of X, kde, gnome and openoffice
compiled for the architecture you download,

This speeds up install.

the iso i downloaded is 

http://linux.citylink.co.nz/gentoo/releases/1.4_rc2/x86/athlon-xp/livecd/gentoo-grp-athlon-xp-1.4_rc2.iso

there is a similar iso for 

athlon-mp
athlon-xp
athlon
i586
i686
pentium3 (includes p4)
x86

x86 is a small iso in case you want to do the whole thing from scratch.
(38.9MB)

Anyway I got Paul the iso at 128k (see Paul, you coulda done it LOL) and
it will be burned between end of work and start of meeting tonight
(fingers crossed)
