Hi there,

My Dick Smith Electronics 'Terminator 1100' linux PC is about to
get better...

The terminator has an S3 Savage4 integrated AGP 4x video chip, but this
chip is not supported by MesaGL or the XFree86 DRI or Utah-GLX projects,
so there is no 3D hardware acceleration for graphics. 2D works very
well luckily, but Dick Smith advertised the PC as having both 2D and
3D.

I quietly mentioned this to them, and after some deliberation they have
decided to do the following...

1. Offer me a free GeForce2 MX200 64MB PCI video card (which is well
supported by linux drivers for 3D).
2. Offer me a free USB modem (my existing modem uses a PCI slot and I
only have 2 to play with, meaning no more upgrades once the gfx card
is installed, unless the PCI modem is removed).

If you are hunting for a modern system to run later linux distros on
the terminator will represent great value IMHO, and you could get free
'extras' while they still sell it without 3D support!

On a different note, has anyone installed a GeForce2 MX200 in their
linux box? There are generic GF2 drivers already installed on my
system, but I think I'd like to try the 'Detonator' drivers from
nVidia ('Detonator' performs very well apparently).

Kind regards,
