As I mentioned on the installfest list - I have been playing around with a
few distros to find something that will run reasonably well on my P166MMX
box with 64mb of ram - basically if it feels similar to the win98 it already
runs I would be happy.
I have tried Knoppix, Caldera Open Office(2.2.x kernel)and Corel Linux, as
well as ELX and Lycoris - and out these I like the ELX best - except that it
causes the machine to either freeze (mouse pointer moves around the screen -
but won't respond to clicks or to the keyboard) - or simply resets when I
connect to the internet. It dials up fine and goes throught the
authentication OK - but as soon as it connects pow, black screen or no
responce (usually the former)- very frustrating!
Any ideas why this might happen.
BTW - I forgot to mention Caldera Open Office in the installfest post - I
have used this quite a bit. Very easy install - one of the best I have used
- especially hardware detection etc. Standard install is only 750mb disk
space - maximum is 1.3gb. I like the mix of apps offered - I think it runs
with KDE2.2 as standard. Very easy to set up and quite quick to click
around etc. I just like the ELX better.
