Ok, I did a lot of research and the whole rtfm thing. I am still getting problems when trying to copy you and Nick's cd's to ISO files.

I am sure it is partially my syntax but I get IO errors when using the CLI OR K3B.
eg:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$ isoinfo -d -i /dev/cdrom
CD-ROM is in ISO 9660 format
System id: LINUX
Volume id: MandrakeLinux9.1-download-2
Volume set id: 01SPP-9102
Publisher id: Mandrakesoft
Data preparer id:
Application id: Installation CD 2 (x86)
Copyright File id:
Abstract File id:
Bibliographic File id:
Volume set size is: 1
Volume set sequence number is: 1
Logical block size is: 2048
Volume size is: 332640
Joliet with UCS level 3 found
Rock Ridge signatures version 1 found

I did the above to get the CD info correct so dd could verify on the fly (right??). I assume if is input file and of is output file?? Can't I ensure I am making an exact dup of your CD's by specifying the bs and count?? Then I can verify the MD5 sum of the output ISO up against the official MDK MD5 sums?

[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$ dd if=/dev/cdrom of=91CD2.iso
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
1330624+0 records in
1330624+0 records out
[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$ dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=2048 count= 332640 of=91CD2.iso
dd: invalid number `'
[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$ dd if=/dev/cdrom bs=2048 of=91CD2.iso
dd: reading `/dev/cdrom': Input/output error
332656+0 records in
332656+0 records out
[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$

What am I doing wrong or are there errors on the CD's??
Also, with dd, how do you specify where the of goes once copied. The info says it goes to stdout without a modifier. Where is stdout (I assume standard out but where the heck is that)?? What if want to send the copy to a specific directory?? Do I have to pipe it??

BTW, how do you check an MD5 sum from the CLI?? I assume it's file (exact path) | md5sum??
Then compare that to the sum MDK gives?? If that's right then I think Nick's CD's are bad:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$ /dev/cdrom | md5sum
bash: /dev/cdrom: Permission denied
d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e -
[EMAIL PROTECTED] jason]$
PS, why does it say permission denied anyway??
(compare md5 sum with CD2 below)

HELP!! I have no CD's to burn yet!!

Sorry to be so verbose but I am still learning my way round the CLI (and doing a piss poor job might I add).

Cheers for the help,

Jason

PS, CC'd to lists so they can see how dumb I am (it MAY help someone else too at least!!)... ;)

PPS, I copied a music CD and some other data CD's to ISO's via K3B without incident so maybe you and Nick's CD's are bad????

**It said to use Windows 9x/2k/XP or better, so I installed Mandrake Linux**
