I wonder (due to privacy laws) if the clothing manufacturers even have 
to tell you that the tags are in the clothing you're buying. Otherwise, 
how would you ever know??

Yes, but the tag is as fine "as a grain of rice" so they 
could embed it

almost anywhere. It may not stay just in the tag. In fact, they might
start putting multiple tags in clothing...in that case am I going to
have to get a "tag-detector" to find them all??
I reckon putting your new jeans in the microwave and running 
it on high for
a minute would frag it nicely :-)
