Hi Everyone,

I "listen in" regularly and from time to time pick up some useful
information relevant to my own situation.

I have a specific query regarding my first experiences setting up a NIS
server and client. I have exhausted all available "immediate" resources
trying to find a solution - but have been unable to find the answer to
my problem.

Situation:

I have set up the NIS server as per RedHat "HOW-TO" info (along with
some suggestions from instructions written by Prateek k Gupta on
NIS/NIS+), and this seems(?) to be working (based upon things going as
was suggested).

I am running ypserv in debug mode.

I set up the NIS client on the same pc, and ran ypbind in debug mode in
another terminal.

When changing between terminals, they seem to be "talking and
listening" without problems. When running ypwhich and ypcat passwd, on
the NIS client - all works as it should.

Now - the problem:
When setting up a NIS client on another PC on the same network (pinging
all ok), I get an error regarding the Domain not being "bound" when
ypbind is trying to work. There are then errors noted on the ypserv
debug log. So the request is being "noticed" but there is some sort of
problem?! :(

What am I doing wrong?
What things can I try?
Any suggestions for resources in this area? (I have tried the internet
and found one troubleshooting article - need more ideas though...)

Any help would be really appreciated.

Regards
Liane.
