I have used both Gaim and Kopete. One feature missing from Gaim makes Kopete
my preference.

I found that Gaim did not automatically add all of my ICQ "buddies" like it
did for MSN. (ICQ contacts had to be added manually) Kopete did it
automatically with both.

Subject: Amsn problem

Hi Howard,

What _exactly_ is the problem? If you can provide more details, chances are
considerably better that someone can help.

If you *really* can't get it working then I suggest you try "gaim". It
should
have been included in you Mandrake install and it will be in "Networking"
-->
"Instant messaging" --> "Gaim". You will need to install the MSN libraries
for gaim which is a very simple matter. From the main screen (gaim) click
"Plugins" then "Load" then select "libmsn.so". When you setup an account
(which is fairly intuitive, click "Accounts", "Add"...) you will need to set

the protocol to MSN. Your screen name is your login name and your Alias is
what you want to be seen as.
The reason I like gaim is that it supports almost every chat protocol there
is
(including ICQ). The only advantage amsn has that I know of, is the
automatic
intergration with your hotmail account, ie the bit that says "32 new
messages".
I hope this helps in some way. For more info on gaim, goto

Good luck,

Daniel
