Hi there,

I did it... I've gone wireless!

HARDWARE

dse wireless pcmcia card and dse wireless access point

the access point is a farily complex piece of hardware with a 4 port lan
hub / wireless access point / WAN interface for cable modems and dsl.

I configured it as a plain and simple ip router on a different subnet
and routed to my linux firewall.
(I'm aware of all the security issues involved with 802.1b wireless
devices, but I needed to have it up and running so I'm only using 128
bit WEP for now)

the pcmcia card is based on ATMEL chipset AT76c502r with RFMD radio
(the dse manual is wrong! it says AT76c503a which is used on usb
devices...); driver is the open sourced one from
http://atmelwlandriver.sourceforge.net/
there are two more revisions of this chipset (the radio frequency
stage controller) (e) and (d) , I'm currently running with the base
version, but both the other revisions seem to work as well (i'll try to
understand better what the differences are).

Both are direct sequence spread spectrum devices.

A couple of "bad" things about this card: you can't use it for
hacking...:( no raw packet dumping facility (firmware limitation) and
the antenna is PCB ... so not removable.

cheers
