Wow,
I'm blown away by the number replies I got and the usefulness of them.
Of course, I now see why I went wrong, those silly little bugs that we all
make (at least, I hope we all make them) and I blame it on not knowing how to
use a debugger in linux, no more Visual Studio for me! So thanks to Tim
Wright for his help on that front and thanks to others for those useful
compile suggestions as well.
Also thanks to everyone who suggested another language to use. Learning both
Perl and Bash Scripting are both on my to-do list and these code examples
should help me on my way there.
There was obviously quite a bit of time spent writing some of those replies
which is a great testament to the usefulness of a mailing-list. After all. a
mailing-list is only as good as the people that post on it.
You probably think that I'm a complete newbie trying to bite off more than I
can chew with C++ but I have done it before, in the form of a moderately
useful Windows telnet server and also a basic OpenGL world. Paul can testify
to these.
Thanks once again to everyone that took time to reply,
Daniel
