Hi guys,

Thanks for all the helpful advice. In the end I decided to put the binary in 
/usr/local/bin/ and the data in /var/quote/.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to package it with scripts to do the 
mkdirs etc and I'll have gone through the process of making an linux app from 
start to finish. I think some of you have pointed me in the right direction 
with that.

No, unfortunately not. As many of you realized this was simply coding for the 
sake of coding. A learning experience to go through the process, so to speak.
