I liked Stellarium, so the concept of a non-earthbound camera really got me, when I browsed the Celestia website. Also, those screenshots looked gorgeous. I >must< get it running...thats why I got a GeForce card after all!
...and I did!
The install instructions told me the libs I needed, I installed a couple of them from my MDK disks, then tried a ./configure...that got thru with some missing bits, but make failed on a missing lib. I found that by doing a file search in the MDK distro RPMS's, found it, and installed it (it was a 200k lib file, but required 14MB of dependencies to work!). I redid the make, and it got further through. This time it couldn't find 'libGL.so'. It was there (called libGL.so.<ver num>) but the symlink pointed to a non-existant filename. I corrected that, ran make, smiled as it chewed through sweet-as, then did da make install...sweet!
Celestia runs quite slowly at 1600x1200 but it looks damn good! But it was my first successful large size compile (hurrah!)
Sorry, for angsty posts earlier. I will download source from now, since fixing the symlink has let me compile a few GL demos now...
Kind regards,
Chris Wilkinson, Christchurch.
