Not true on my box anyway. I did a fresh install on a new partition and 
I run a PII 300 with 512MB RAM and mine started in like 30 seconds the 
first time round. So, sounds like something went haywire during install 
somehow someway. BTW, KDE 3.1 runs FASTER on my box than 3.0 did so so 
much for bloatware I suppose.

I just installed Mandrake 9.1 onto a low spec (PII 400, ~400Mb Ram)
machine and the installation seemed to go OK but after rebooting and
setting the first time stuff I have just got a nice background with a
cursor which changes from the wriswatch to an arrow and back.
How long do I wait?
